PropaGATE
Join Us in Tackling WA’s Biggest Agri-Food Challenges
Let’s Get Started!
Challenge Statement
Farmers and agribusinesses in Western Australia are facing increasing water scarcity due to climate change, with growing competition between agriculture and households for limited resources.
This issue is particularly acute in the Peel region, where plans to intensify land use must balance environmental protection of the Peel-Harvey Estuary.
Meanwhile, industries such as breweries, abattoirs and dairy producers generate large amounts of wastewater, missing opportunities for sustainable reuse in agriculture or other industries.
This program focuses on identifying and implementing cost-effective, sustainable technologies to treat agricultural wastewater, promoting resilience and environmental responsibility in the sector.
What is PropaGATE?
PropaGATE is an innovation program tackling key challenges in agriculture, especially drought and climate change, through a collaborative, challenge-led approach.
We work with WA farmers to identify issues and run solution "sprints," bringing cutting-edge technologies from around the globe to the region. Farmers are involved every step of the way, from defining challenges to implementing solutions.
The program also supports local startups and innovators, strengthening WA’s AgriFoodTech industry and driving sustainable growth.
Why work
with us?
Beanstalk is an innovation advisory and venture builder dedicated to unleashing the potential of agriculture as a leading force for good. Our flagship program, GRAFT, is a key part of enabling open innovation challenges, and we collaborate with clients to lead and run open innovation programs across APAC.
We leverage our agricultural industry experience and global network to scout, trial and scale solutions for the challenges and opportunities of growers and agri-businesses.
Why focus on innovation?
The agriculture industry is vital for ensuring food security, driving trade, and supporting rural communities.
However, it faces pressing challenges like rising input costs, climate pressures, and global demands for traceability and sustainability. Innovative technologies can tackle key issues and enhance the sector's sustainability and resilience
Industry and stakeholder interviews have already highlighted key issues such as: 1) wastewater treatment 2) water quality monitoring 3) cattle emissions measurement 4) bird damage in orchards 5) weeding in horticulture, and many more. This long list of challenges is a living document and will continuously be updated, and we welcome input from all stakeholders.
