Australia Vietnam Partnership for Climate Smart Agriculture
Blueprint Launch
The Australia-Vietnam Blueprint for Climate-Smart Agriculture: “Advancing Climate-Smart Shrimp and Rice Industries in Vietnam”
Discover how to accelerate Vietnam’s transition to climate-smart rice and shrimp production.
This much-anticipated blueprint will serve as a guide for Vietnamese and Australian audiences on climate-smart agriculture. It explores the challenges and opportunities in Vietnam’s rice and shrimp sectors and highlights how collaboration can accelerate this transformation.
Developed through support from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) under the Australia-Vietnam Enhanced Economic Engagement Grant (AVEG) 2023, this report is a core component of Beanstalk’s broader ‘Australia Vietnam Partnership for Climate-Smart Agriculture’, a program focused on curating bilateral collaboration opportunities to advance Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) in Vietnam.
This project will unlock the Australia-Vietnam bilateral partnership opportunities and targeted initiatives to ensure solutions focused on food security, climate adaptation, and climate mitigation are activated and that impactful uptake of CSA practices and solutions in Vietnam are meaningfully supported.

Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) is a critical approach to help farmers adapt to climate change and enhance food security. This year-long project will identify the main challenges and opportunities in CSA in both the rice and shrimp sector through an industry-led blueprint, informed by a series of industry roundtables to be held in mid-October this year.
Senior leaders in the CSA ecosystem across both Australia and Vietnam will also be invited to in-country missions in Australia and Vietnam to learn more about the challenges and opportunities firsthand in March 2024.
About the Project
Why is the Project Important?
The agriculture sector is a significant driver of regional food security, rural economies, and farmer livelihoods.
Climate change is threatening food security and farmer livelihoods.
Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) solutions can help farmers adapt to climate change and increase food security.
Project Impact
This project will unlock Australia-Vietnam bilateral partnership opportunities and targeted initiatives to ensure solutions focused on food security, climate adaptation, and climate mitigation are activated, and that impactful uptake of CSA practices and solutions in Vietnam are meaningfully supported. The learnings over the project will culminate in a focused blueprint, serving as an industry guide for Australian and Vietnamese audiences on specific challenges, barriers and opportunities for CSA in the Vietnamese rice and shrimp supply chain.
Who is Involved?
A diverse spectrum of stakeholders from the Vietnamese rice and shrimp value chains (e.g., government, NGOs, and commercial entities) will be engaged to identify collaboration opportunities with Australian organisations. This program will also outreach to Australian organisations who have CSA knowledge and solutions that may benefit the Vietnam rice and shrimp market and have a keen interest in exploring collaborative opportunities in Vietnam.
